The Flickers' preseason concluded with 19 matches played all told in the month of September.
No prizes or prestige were gained or earned from the preseason matches, but rather some well-earned practice and ideas about how the rest of the year will shake out.

Richmond Flickers Table Soccer at its best!

Aldridge vs. Silva in the Michigan Cup 2003

NEWS
December 8th, 2003: Marco Silva and Andrew Giffen made the short drive to Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, for two tournaments.  At Saturday's Mid-Atlantic Major, the Holiday Silver, the duo finished 2nd and 4th respectively.  Andrew knocked off current national champion Gregg Deinhart to claim top honors in Group B, whilst Marco meted out a second place finish in Group A to make the knock-out round.  Paired against each other, Andrew overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat his club mate 3-1.  In the championship match Andrew lost to Rick Wilcox of host club WTSL.   At Sunday's MLS Cup, an ASA Open tournament, Marco again qualified for the semifinals only to lose a close match to eventual tournament champion Nick Giffen of CvilleSC.  Andrew had been placed in Marco's Group A but was sent to the consolation round after finishing behind Marco in the standings.  The two drew 1-1 in their group match.  Andrew did manage to save some face by coming through the Mary Jane consolation rounds unscathed and winning 3-1 over WTSL's John Carroll in the finals.  The pair look forward to the holiday season.  Marco will take holiday in Seattle, and Andrew will prepare to defend his title at the fourth Giffen Cup January 3rd in Charlottesville, Virginia.
November 15th, 2003: Marco Silva made a long road trip to Rockford, IL, for the Chicago Classic.  In this 12-person tournament Silva took third place.  After dominating his group and cruising to a perfect 5-0-0 record Silva's shooting touch failed him in a tight semifnal.  Tim Boone of the St. Louis Subbuteo League eeked past Marco 1-0.  But Marco took a bit of revenge by defeating Boone's club mate Mike Keller 1-0 in the third place match.  Congrats to Marco on a strong appearance and good finish.  On December 6th Marco and Andrew will represent Richmond Flickers in the Mid-Atlantic's ASA Major event: the Holiday Silver in Alexandria, VA.  If you are interested in travelling with Marco and Andrew to the event simply contact them to make arrangements.
October 25th, 20003: Richmond Flickers representative, Marco Silva, took a long drive to the Great Lakes state and wound up flicking into second place at the Michigan Cup in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He won the honor of playing in the final with Canada's Scott Aldridge after beating Canada's Chris Buttiegig 4-1 in the semis. The score ended up 2-1. It was a close game but after 6 shots on goal in the last 4 minutes he was unable to equalize for a chance to win. A bit of Subbuteo history for you, Scott Aldridge is who Marco faced off with in the 1997 US National Championship Finals which Marco won.
October 4th, Marco Silva, formerly of the Washington Tuesday Subbuteo League, made it to the semifinals of the Madisonian at James Madison University. Marco missed out on a chance in the finals, when he lost in shots to Nick Giffen after a scoreless regulation and overtime.  Ironically Nick is a brother of Marco's Richmond Flickers club mate Andrew Giffen.  Congrats to Marco on a strong showing in the first ASA tournament of the season.
